The latest incarnation of the Nintendo DS, now called the Nintendo DS Lite White Console is lighter and more portable than ever before and boasts numerous new features and enhancements over the original DS, all of which are covered in more detail below:

• Lighter: the overall weight of the Nintendo DS Lite White has been reduced by 21% from 275g to 218g.


• Smaller: the Nintendo DS Lite White Console measures just 133mm x 73.9 mm x 21.5 mm, that's 42% less volume than the original Nintendo DS which measures 148.7 mm x 84.7 mm x 28.9 mm.


• Improved Battery Life: the DS Lite comes equipped with a 1000mAh battery that will run for up to approximately 19 hours on a full 3-hour charge, this compared with the original DS which comes with a 850mAh battery capable of powering the unit for just 10 hours.


• Brighter LCD Displays: the Nintendo DS Lite White Console comes with brighter and more durable LCD displays which feature 4 brightness settings meaning the console can be used in even the most bright of conditions.


• Larger Stylus: the stylus, used to make selections on the lower LCD screen of the DS Lite, has been increased in length by 1cm and in thickness by 1mm in order to make it easier to grip. The stylus now slides into a storage compartment on the side of the Nintendo DS Lite White.


• Relocation of Start and Select buttons: Start and Select buttons have been decreased in size and repositioned beneath the A, B, X and Y buttons.


• Power slider: the power button of the original Nintendo DS has now been replaced with a power slider located on the right hand side of the console.


• Microphone repositioned: the built in microphone of the DS has been repositioned inbetween the top and bottom LCD displays of the Nintendo DS Lite White Console


• New colours: the DS Lite is available in 11 colours in total; White, Black, Blue, Red, Navy, Pink, Rose, Silver, Crimson, Turquoise and Green as well as numerous limited edition designs.


• Smaller D-Pad: the D-Pad of the Nintendo DS Lite White Console has been reduced to 18.6mm, that's 16% smaller than that of the original Nintendo DS.


• Power and Charging indicators: the power and charging indicator lights have been relocated to the right-hand hinge.

The Nintendo DS Lite White Console remains backwards compatible with Game Boy Advance games thanks to its GBA slot. However, due to the DS Lite's redesign and subsequent smaller frame, Game Boy Advance game cartridges now protrude out of the console by 1cm, this doesn't interfere with gameplay though. When the GBA slot is not in use, a filler cartridge is provided which can be inserted into the slot, sitting flush with the surface of the console in order to keep dust and dirt out of the Nintendo DS Lite White.
